The crew of Incalculable Unknowns
DEVELOPMENT & PRE-PRODUCTION
Sarah (Producer), Annabel (Director), and Graham (Cinematographer) began development in May of 2021, meeting weekly over Zoom to revise the script, schedule production, plan the spaceship's aesthetic, and more.
A big part of pre-production was creating a campaign and raising money to fund this production. Sarah (Producer), Bailey (Social Media Manager), Brandon (Social Media Assistant), and Danny (2nd Social Media Assistant) worked hard over the summer to make this happen by creating content and making our Indiegogo page. Thanks to many generous contributors, we were fully funded!
Our Instagram page, run by Bailey (Social Media Manager) with graphics by Brandon (Social Media Assistant). Check it out here!
Sarah (Producer), Annabel (Director), and Graham (Cinematographer) spent hours brainstorming the emotions of each scene and how to express them with different lenses, framing, and camera movement.

Led by Perry (Set Construction), our Art team quickly and efficiently created a unique spaceship from scratch. This picture is from the early stages in the building process as the walls of the console go up.

Holden (Set Construction Assistant), Lucy (Art Director), and Grace (Production Designer) carefully match sheets of wallpaper and put them up in the living area of the spaceship.

The completed console prior to filming. Grace (Production Designer) and Lucy (Art Director) designed and made the console, which involved searching for parts, painting, and using lots of creativity and hot glue sticks. The colors and shape of the entire spaceship were carefully chosen to convey different story elements.

PRODUCTION
Sarah (Producer) and Annabel (Director) on set at 6AM on the first day of production.
The most actor-heavy scene was Margaret's Luncheon. Jana (2nd AD) is seen talking to our extras while Grace (Production Designer) preps the table. In the back Joshua (Grip) attaches a bounce to the ceiling and Tyler (Boom Operator) and Brianna (Sound Mixer) prepare to record.
To achieve a top-down shot of the pool Grip & Electric hovered a Mini Arri Alexa over the water. Pictured here are Samuel (Gaffer), Adam (2nd AC), Joshua (Grip), An Da (1st AC), and Gunnar (Grip).
Chris stays clear of the water as he copies over hours of footage and carefully renames and organizes each file.
Susan (Margaret) and Linda (Ivy) prep for their scene in the hospital room.

Graham (Cinematographer) pictured with the Mini Alexa Arri. Graham paired this camera with vintage lenses to add a 70's feel to our space vibe, creating a truly original image.
Lucy (Art Director), Grace (Production Designer), Jana (2nd AD), Sarah (Producer), and Annabel (Director) brainstorming a scene
Mari (1st AD) created a detailed schedule and communicated with each department on set during production to keep our 30+ person crew on schedule.

Jaron (Crafty) planned and coordinated meals, snacks, and beverages for our entire cast and crew through production. He made sure everyone was fed, hydrated, and happy, and even invented ~Crafty Games~ to play over lunch break.
Mari (1st AD), Sarah (Producer), Grace (Production Designer), Annabel (Director), Graham (Cinematographer) strike silly poses making fun of the stereotypes of their own positions.
Jesse (Script Supervisor) hides out of view of the camera making sure no one misses their lines and checking for continuity errors while Brianna (Sound Mixer) and Tyler (Boom Op) listen to playback and prepare their sound equipment.
Between scenes, we had to adjust the stars to show that the spaceship had moved. Here Grace (Production Designer), Morgan (Costume), Sarah (Producer), Lucy (Art Director), and Mari (1st AD) take down stars.
Linda (Ivy) stands at her mark while Samuel (Gaffer) and Gunnar (Grip) adjust the lighting to make sure our stars are illuminated

Our final shots were filmed outside during golden hour. Morgan (Costume Designer) created a completely unique look for Ivy in this scene by making the dress herself.
